Illinois Biofoundry for Advanced Biomanufacturing (iBioFAB)
Stephan Lane manages the Illinois Biofoundry for Advanced Biomanufacturing (iBioFAB) automation platform at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The iBioFAB team aims to combine laboratory automation with synthetic biology to push the boundaries of automated genetic engineering. Using their iBioFAB platform, they also offer services to researchers, such as plasmid construction, strain engineering, and high-throughput screening. Most recently, the team aims to establish a “closed loop” design-build-test-learn (DBTL) cycle by combining robotic automation with machine learning. The iBioFAB team is a founding member of the Global Biofoundry Alliance (GBA) and works to promote international collaborations furthering laboratory automation research.
